Dynamics, Manifestations, and Consequences of Antisemitism in Higher Education from the Perspective of Jewish Students
The project seeks to investigate the dynamics, manifestations, and consequences of antisemitism at higher education institutions from the perspective of Jewish students and to translate the findings into recommendations for institutional strategies.
The first objective is an in-depth analysis of this phenomenon, focusing on the perspective of those affected. Their perspective will be captured in a nuanced manner through qualitative longitudinal interviews and a quantitative questionnaire among Jewish students. The study aims to capture the subjective experience of antisemitism within higher education, its manifestations and dynamics following October 7, 2023, individual ways of coping with antisemitism and its effects, potential sources of support, and perceptions of how institutions respond to the issue.
In addition to these findings, there will be a process of dialogue between university administrators, Jewish students, and the Zentrale Beratungsstelle zu Antisemitismus an Hochschulen in NRW (Central Advisory Office on Antisemitism in Higher Education in North Rhine-Westphalia). With this information, we will develop informed strategies for proactive action in co-creation workshops and then disseminate these across institutions of higher education.
